COP28: Scriptoria called on to champion sustainable food and water
COP28 made headlines this week with its global stocktake, the first time all 199 Parties of the United Nations Climate Change Conference have explicitly acknowledged the need to move away from fossil fuels. But this was just one of the many accomplishments of the two-week, 70,000-attendee event. Scriptoria, as a company dedicated to creating and communicating sustainable development, was proud to support some of the delegates making history in Dubai.
Supporting resilient agriculture
Scriptoria’s Communications team was on hand to showcase how NEXUS Gains, the CGIAR Initiative driving systems change at the water–energy–food–ecosystems nexus, is contributing to climate change adaptation and mitigation. This included researching and writing an impact brief and creating engaging posts for the CGIAR’s Environmental Health and Biodiversity social media channels throughout the conference. A video highlighting the urgency of nexus solutions – conceptualised, scripted and produced by Scriptoria – was also screened at COP28’s Food and Agriculture Pavilion.
Food and agriculture were at the heart of the Just Rural Transition (JRT) initiative’s efforts in Dubai. For the second year running, Scriptoria was entrusted to edit and compile a Compendium of Country Case Studies as part of the 2023 Global Policy Dialogue for Sustainable Agriculture showcasing equitable solutions to the planet’s urgent food systems challenges. The team also helped JRT publish a series of policy pathway briefs. Our quick and effective management of this important project freed JRT, as well as its partners, FCDO and the World Bank, to focus on the vital decision-making at COP28 – including a raft of new support for sustainable farming.
Putting water centre stage
COP28 also distinguished itself with a strong focus on water sustainability. This was welcome news for another of our important clients, the Global Water Partnership (GWP). Scriptoria supported its promotion of sustainable water management by writing a wrap-up article of GWP’s contributions to the conference and by editing and producing a special issue of its newsletter, focussed on COP28’s important outcomes.
Communicating the future of sustainable development
We know that achievements like the global stocktake are not a solution to the climate crisis, but a springboard for further urgent action. As our clients step up to the challenges identified at COP28, Scriptoria stands ready to support them – proud to play our part in building a more sustainable, equitable world.
